What is required to receive a certification?

Successful completion of all online content prior to the first in-person session and the prerequisite skills are required to continue participation in The American Red Cross lifeguard training courses.  Additionally, participants must

  • Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions
  • Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming
various roles during skill practices, skill drills, activities and
    scenarios
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all skills.
  • Successfully pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of
    80 percent.
  • Pass the final skill assessments.

How much time should I set aside for the online content for a lifeguard training course?

Expect the online content for a lifeguard training course to take 7-8 hours.  You may save your progress and resume at a later time, so it is not necessary to complete it all in one sitting.

Why do I need to pass the prerequisite swimming skills evaluation to continue in the course?

The skills taught in the lifeguard training course are physically demanding and require certain swimming skills to be successful.  If you are concerned about passing the prerequisite skills to continue in the course, you may want to visit your local swimming pool to attempt / practice the skills prior to registering for a course.

I have obligations that conflict with a portion of the course. Can I miss part of the course?

For all certification courses offered by Splash, full participation in the course is required.  If you miss a portion of the course, you will not receive a certification.

Is there a chance the class will not run?

We have a minimum participation requirement of six (6) participants to run a  course.  If it is not met 2-weeks prior to the start of the in-person sessions, the course will be cancelled.

What happens if the course does not meet the minimum participation requirement?

If there are not a minimum of six (6) participants in a course 2-weeks before the first in-person session, it is cancelled and you have the option to select another Splash offered course with an opening, add to waitlists for full courses or receive a full refund.

What is the refund policy?

Full refunds may not be given within 14 days of the course, so please plan accordingly.  Please note that no refunds will be given for participants who are unable to complete the online content, pass the prerequisite skills, drop, or fail the course.
