Lifeguard Certification Classes

We are offering Red Cross Lifeguard Training courses to participants who are 15 years old on or before the first day of the course. All courses are blended learning, meaning participants will complete a portion of the course online prior to the in-classroom sessions. Access to a computer and reliable internet is required. Spaces are limited.

The cost of the course includes the certification and CPR resuscitation mask.  Certification includes Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid.

Blended Learning Course – Online Component

This is a blended learning course, meaning there is an online learning portion that must be completed prior to the in-person sessions.  Access to the online component will be provided a minimum of 2-weeks prior to the first in-person session.

Prerequisite Swimming Skills Evaluation

The following will be preformed during the first in-water session of the in-person course:

  • Prerequisite 1 – Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
    • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
    • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
    • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
  • Prerequisite 2 – Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
    • Submerge to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Requirements for Certification

To successfully complete the course and receive certification, you
must:

  • Successfully complete the online learning portion prior to attending the in-person sessions.
  • Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.
  • Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming
    various roles during skill practices, skill drills, activities and
    scenarios.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all skills.
  • Successfully pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of
    80 percent.
  • Pass the final skill assessments.

Swim Lesson Instructor Training

Learn the skills required to teach swim lessons through Splash’s Water Wise program.

This certification is intended for Splash employees interested in teaching swim lessons at the neighborhood pools.

Not employed by Splash?

If you are interested in lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons for Splash Pool Services and are not already employed, please complete an application.  Details for swim lesson instructor training will be provided upon hire.  Lifeguard Training registration can be found above if you are not certified as a lifeguard or already enrolled in a course.
